I’m Sky Lakota-Lynch, and I’m an actor on Broadway. My favorite song is “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor. I was in the back seat of my parents’ car when I first heard this song, when I was about maybe five years old. My dad was singing to it, and my dad was crying, and I didn’t quite understand what was going on. I had never seen my dad cry before. And then, later in life, I found out the significance of that song to my dad. My aunt, she passed away in a car accident at age 25. And the song that she was listening to was “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor. My dad saved the cassette. The cassette made it out of the accident, which is wild . I think that James Taylor tells the truth in his lyrics. He’s sort of speaking about how life is so fragile and how you cannot take it for granted for a single moment. And I’m a person who’s had a lot of low moments in my life so I know how to swim the deep end. Especially during the pandemic, when we weren’t sure if Broadway was going to come back. I had to re-audition for the show “The Outsiders” that I’m in that’s coming to Broadway with “Fire and Rain,” and I got my job back. So I owe a lot to James Taylor.
